Hosted by the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art, this exhibition was centered around the 30th Anniversary of Richard Schmid's presidency at the second oldest artist organization in the United States. The event featured several paintings by Richard Schmid, as well as paintings and demonstrations by some of the extraordinary young artists whom he mentored when he painted there. The line up included Richard Schmid's wife Nancy Guzik, Rose Frantzen, Scott Burdick, Susan Lyon, Clayton J. Beck III and Romel de la Torre. Under Richard Schmid's tutlege, these artist matured into exceptionally talented, professional artist and mentors of their own. The Palette & Chisel was pleased to honor Richard Schmid, the artists he mentored and celebrate their importance to the modern history of the Palette & Chisel. Attendees were able to enjoy a live, and lively, group demo by Scott Burdick, Rose Frantzen, Clayton J. Beck III & Romel de la Torre painting a model in the third floor studio just like they did in the 1980's. Scott Burdick gave a wonderful AV presentation in the gallery which included a lively Q&A session. Proceeds from the event were donated to the Diane K. Rath Scholarship Fund. In September, West Wind Fine Art hosted an exceptional exhibition and tribute to Richard Schmid, at the The Laumeister Art Center in Bennington, Vermont in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of ALLA PRIMA. The two day event was curated by longtime friend and gallery representative Kristen Thies, who was instrumental in helping to get ALLA PRIMA published. The exhibition features paintings by Richard Schmid, Richard's wife Nancy Guzik,Kathy Anderson, Scott Burdick, Stephanie Birdsall, Michelle Dunaway, Daniel J. Keys, Susan Lyon and Kristen's late husband Timothy R. Thies. In addition to the exhibition's opening reception, attendees enjoyed a Richard Schmid film festival, panel discussion, and live painting demonstration and digital lecture show by Daniel J. Keys. In October, Salmagundi Club, one of America’s oldest art organizations, hosted the their annual American Masters Exhibition & Sale, marking the exhibition's 10th anniversary. The event also celebrated the recent $1.5 million renovation and restoration of the Club’s Upper Gallery space. Sales from prior American Masters exhibitions initiated significant funding for the renovation project, along with major gifts from the Manton Foundation and a matching grant from the New York State Dormitory Authority. Thanks to contributions of great American artists, benefactors and art enthusiasts this unique organization remains an important and vibrant part of American art culture. The show featured paintings CELLIST and MICHELLE, generously on loan from two private collectors, as part of the tribute to eight living legends who have been an integral part of American Masters through the years: Richard Schmid, Douglas Allen, Max Ginsburg, Daniel E. Greene, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David A Leffel, Burton Silverman and John Stobart. Throughout his career, Schmid has generously shared his knowledge through his publications and his mentoring of young artists. He continues to promote art education through his books, articles and demonstrations.
The Excellence in Fine Art Education Award was established in 2002, and is among the one of highest honors the organization confers, recognizing the indispensable contributions of museums, foundations, patrons, art schools, ateliers and artists that support the teaching and encouragement of artists seeking to work in the realist tradition. Previous recipients have been the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, National Academy of Design, Lyme Academy, Florence Academy, Rockwell Museum, The Barnes Foundation, New York Academy of Art and last year the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.

The fundraiser assisted The Rocky Mountain Conservancy with their ongoing effort to acquire available lands within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park while honoring Richard Schmid and his Fine Art career. Books and a special LTD print titled
Aspen Forest- Rocky Mountain National Park, were available for purchase and sold out quickly. 100% of sales from the print were donated to the Rocky Mountain Conservancy.
